🔥 Colorado Wildfire Started by a Dog?!

How did $300,000 and nearly 7,200 acres get lit on fire?

A Colorado wildfire was started by a dog owner!

No. A dog didn’t light a match.

A man has been arrested in Nucla, Colorado, after allegedly attempting to cremate his dog, which led to the Bucktail Fire in early August.

Brent Scott Garber, 63, was taken into custody on September 5 by the Montrose County Sheriff's Office. He faces charges of arson and trespassing.

The sheriff’s office commander identified Garber as a suspect when he saw him leaving the scene on an ATV just minutes after the fire ignited, according to The Denver Post.

Following this, the commander collaborated with state fire investigators and found a dug-out area at the fire's origin. Inside, they discovered a partially burned dog’s body along with a large rock inscribed with “Oct. 2017 July 2024, Rocket Dog, Rest in Peace Buddy,” which was later confirmed to be a tribute to Garber's dog, Rocket. The dog had been ordered to be euthanized by a judge after an altercation with another dog, as detailed in the affidavit. Garber appeared in court on September 25, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 23.

The Bucktail Fire, one of the largest in Colorado this year, caused approximately $300,000 in damages across both public and private properties, burning over 7,200 acres.

Fortunately, there were no evacuations or reported injuries.

The affidavit states that Garber placed his dog in a pit with wood and set it on fire before throwing a spray can into the flames, which exploded and struck a nearby tree. Witnesses later reported that Garber claimed the fire was accidental.
