A major pet supplement brand just paid $11.5M to settle false advertising claims...

...and quietly agreed to stop making the promises that sold you on it.

Your Vet Has Probably Recommended This Brand. They Just Paid $11.5 Million to Make a Lawsuit Go Away.

If your dog takes a joint supplement, there's a good chance it's Cosequin.

It's at every vet's office. Every PetSmart endcap. Every "10 best joint supplements" listicle ever written. It's the default -- the one people buy because it's everywhere, so surely it must work.

Here's the thing: last month, Nutramax Laboratories -- the company that makes Cosequin -- agreed to an $11.5 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging they misrepresented what their product actually does. The claims about joint flexibility, improved mobility, and restored joint health? Allegedly incapable of being delivered.

A court found enough merit in those allegations that Nutramax paid $11.5 million rather than fight it.

As part of the deal, they agreed to permanently pull these phrases from Cosequin packaging:

  • "Mobility, Cartilage and Joint Health Support"

  • "Supports Mobility for a Healthy Lifestyle"

  • "Use Cosequin to help your pet climb stairs, rise and jump!"

Those were the promises on the bag you bought. Gone -- as part of the deal.

If you’re looking for better…

That’s why I started The Little Chonk Health Dept.

Because we were furious about exactly this. So we built Hip & Joint 2.0 on real science, ingredient by ingredient, with the receipts:

  • KSM-66 Ashwagandha -- the most clinically studied ashwagandha extract on the market, shown in randomized controlled trials to significantly reduce pain severity scores and stress markers in dogs

  • AstaReal Astaxanthin -- peer-reviewed canine studies showing improved antioxidant function and reduced oxidative stress; an antioxidant up to 6,000x more potent than vitamin C

  • Green Lipped Mussel -- double-blind, placebo-controlled trials in dogs with osteoarthritis showing measurable improvements in joint pain, swelling, and mobility

  • Krill Meal + Anchovy Oil (EPA/DHA) -- marine-sourced omega-3s at meaningful doses, supported by veterinary research as part of a comprehensive approach to joint health

Every ingredient. Every claim. Linked to the study. Try finding that kind of transparency anywhere else in this industry.

Bought Cosequin between 2016-2022? You may be owed money.

California residents can claim up to $150 in settlement compensation. Deadline: July 21, 2026.

We'll keep doing what we do: building products we can stand behind, and calling out the parts of this industry that need it. Your dog is counting on someone to.
