Why Westminster Should Be Cancelled!
The startling facts behind Best in Show...
The Strange Truth Behind “Best in Show”

Boujee, a top-ranked golden retriever, competed at this year’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, but she didn’t win. In fact, in the event’s 117 year history, no golden has ever won Best in Show. Despite their popularity, goldens, like Labradors and French bulldogs, have been overlooked in favor of breeds like wire fox terriers and Pekingese.
Boujee, whose full name is GCHG Skyline’s Bad & Boujee, has had an impressive year, winning four Best in Show titles and earning the top golden retriever award at the breed’s national competition. Known for her poise, enthusiasm, and love of attention, she lives with her co-owner in South Carolina and enjoys swimming, fetching, and carrying around her beloved (and heavily replaced) stuffed sloth.

Her handler, Ryan Tepera, has dreamed of competing at Westminster since childhood, turning his passion for dog shows into a career. While experts remain puzzled by why goldens never win, Tepera believes Boujee is “a once-in-a-lifetime dog.”
But did Boujee win Best in Show this year? No…no he didn’t.
The Winners

Since its inception in 1907, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show has awarded the prestigious Best in Show title to various breeds, with a notable concentration among certain groups. Here's a breakdown:
Top Winning Breeds:
Wire Fox Terrier: 15 wins
Scottish Terrier: 8 wins
English Springer Spaniel: 6 wins
Standard Poodle: 5 wins
Pekingese: 5 wins
Wins by Group:
Terrier Group: 46 wins
Sporting Group: 18 wins
Working Group: 15 wins
Toy Group: 11 wins
Non-Sporting Group: 10 wins
Hound Group: 6 wins
Herding Group: 3 wins
Notably, some of the most popular breeds in the United States, such as Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers, have never won Best in Show at Westminster.
The Losers

Even though I would never consider any of these breeds losers (especially the corgi breed), several popular dog breeds have never won the Best in Show title at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Notable among them are:
Labrador Retriever: Despite being the most popular dog breed in the United States, Labradors have never clinched the top prize at Westminster.
Golden Retriever: Similarly, Golden Retrievers have yet to secure a Best in Show win at Westminster.
French Bulldog: Although they have won Best of Group once, French Bulldogs have never taken home the Best in Show title.
Dachshund: Despite winning Best of Group multiple times, Dachshunds have not achieved a Best in Show victory.
Rottweiler: This loyal and protective breed has only won Best of Group once and has never been awarded Best in Show.
Pembroke Welsh Corgi: Despite winning Best of Group several times, Pembroke Welsh Corgis have not secured a Best in Show win.
Great Dane: Known for their majestic stature, Great Danes have yet to win Best in Show at Westminster.
Shih Tzu: Despite their noble roots, Shih Tzus have not taken the crown at Westminster.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel: This breed has never won Best in Show or even Best of Group at Westminster.
Miniature Schnauzer: Despite their popularity, Miniature Schnauzers have not won Best in Show at Westminster.
Progress
This year, however, the winner of Best in Show told a different story. Monty, a Giant Schnauzer, was named Best in Show at the 2025 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Tuesday. The winner of the Working Group for the past three years at Westminster, Monty becomes the first Giant Schnauzer ever to win Best in Show at the prestigious contest.

In conclusion
Okay, should Best in Show be cancelled? Definitely not. But c’mon! I don’t even own a golden retriever but this good boy definitely deserves the top prize!
